Wild Sun Tea

Walking the forest and collecting wild treasures has quickly become one of my favorite things to do. The kids love it too and can each identify multiple herbs and their benefits. Being in the forest is just as healing as the tea I make with the wild medicinals herbs we find. Our property is about 50/50 pasture and forest. We haven’t even begun to explore the entire forest.

For this tea you’ll want a gallon glass jar, fresh clean water (spoiler alert, your tap water is not clean), and an adventurous spirit. I often pick the herbs and place them straight into the jar as I am walking.

If you are lucky enough to live in North Idaho you can find over 50 medicinal herbs in the forests all around us. Every state has herbs that are specific to the needs of the people in those areas. It is incredible to me that there is so much health and healing available to us in our backyards. We just have to get up and find it.

Pick your herbs responsibly and put them in your jar. Don’t forget to take a moment and pray over your harvest and express gratitude.

I fill my jars about half full of herbs and then cover with our delicious well water. Place your beautiful wild sun tea into the sun. I let mine brew for 24-48 hours. The sun and moon charge the water adding more benefits to the tea.

I am learning all about water and it’s ability to store information. There are some very amazing experiments being done where water is shown images and then flash frozen, the water then freezes and copies the picture in the frost. It’s truly amazing. If our water can hold information, I want my tea to hold healing thoughts for all who drink it. I have made a list of words like health, love, gratitude, restorative sleep, healing, balance, abundance, prosperity. Hoping that my tea can deliver these messages deep into our cells.

Strain and enjoy your tea plain, over ice, or lightly sweetened with raw honey. You can take this tea a step forward and make it into a wild lemonade. It is so refreshing and hydrating. I use it as the liquid in popsicles and smoothies too. It’s a really easy way to bring these healing herbs into your everyday life.

I sell this tea to local friends, but I also want to share exactly what I do, because this is an easy practice we can all bring into our lives.

Here are a few of the herbs we love, and all the ways they can support our bodies. I made these slides as part of a presentation I did for Ladies Homestead Gathering.

This is not advice. Please research and work with a certified herbalist. I think it is always best to go foraging with a friend, and learn from them.
